Social Sustainability Development
The Policy on Social Sustainable Development was designed to provide favorable conditions for the development of the citizens, allowing each one to participate in accordance with his capacities and interests, towards developing dynamic communities showing solidarity in a safe and secure environment.
The approach to sustainable social development adopted in Vaudreuil-Soulanges is based on values of equality, fairness, openness and solidarity. Policies for sustainable social development benefit all citizens and pays special attention to the implementation of projects aimed at citizens a vulnerable situations with low social participation, that is to say citizens faced with difficult situations (economic, cultural, etc.) limiting their level of participation in society.
The Policy for sustainable social development is the result of an extensive consulting process held between 2006 and 2008, involving 121 different organizations and 80 citizens in the territory.
The Vaudreuil-Soulanges policy can act locally and regionally to support and develop partnerships between community organizations. Its objective is to promote continuous improvement of the well being and quality of life for communities in Vaudreuil-Soulanges, in an integrated and sustainable way.
The Policy for sustainable social development is the results of a territory diagnosis that clearly identifies the strengths, challenges, opportunities and threats to development in the region. The extensive report comes from the analysis of consultations and include the following main elements:
• Resources and Services
Demographic data, distribution of services, services for local and metropolitan areas, sociodemographic characteristics, urban and village centers, poverty and vulnerable populations, public transit.
• Information and Communication
Regional information tools, media and access to telecommunications.
• Consultation and Partnership
Locations for forums.
• Identity and Affiliation
Regional products, regional identity, heritage sites and areas of cultural expression, newcomers.
• Citizen Participation
Consultation and citizen involvement.
• Quality of living surrondings
Natural environment, safe living environments, and leisure-type physical activity.
• Development and updating of skills
Education and educational attainment, employment and economic development, access to employment and community development.
The policy focuses on seven areas of intervention supported by overall program goals and objectives:
• To facilitate access, consolidation and development of resources and services on the territory.
• To strengthen the knowledge, promotion and enhancement of local and regional initiatives.
• To support cross-sectoral consultation and partnership in sustainable social development.
• To promote and stimulate the affiliation of the citizens to the MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges.
• To recognize, support and strengthen citizen participation towards regional life.
• To promote the maintenance and development of healthy and safe living environments.
• To promote the development and continued skills training of citizens and recognize their contribution to the vitality of the region.
With respect to citizen participation, the MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges has developed a governance model in collaboration with its partners for social development.

Implementation and Action Plan
In cooperation with its various partners, the MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges has elaborated an action plan aiming at the implementation of the policy for sustainable social development with respect to the fields of competence of its partners. The Action Plan gives details, increased visibility, enhanced value and support of local action steps.
For example, here are some concrete achievements conducted in collaboration with all of the MRC’s partners:
24/7 Homlessness Housing project
The MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges has donated an amount of $5,000 to the agency L’Aiguillage for its 24/7 homelessness housing project. With this support, L'Aiguillage will be able to relocate its offices within Vaudreuil-Dorion to be closer to the relevant services and favour community reintegration for residents presenting a homelessness risk.
The MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges will provide recurring funding necessary to maintain the PAIR program, managed by the Centre d’action bénévole L’Actuel. More than just a program, P.A.I.R. is a way of life in a community that cares about the well being of its people. This service, monitored by daily phone calls to older people, will increase the safety of these people at home. It allows seniors to maintain their independence, in addition to ensuring their safety and peace of mind for their families and friends.
Community and collective transportation services
The Vaudreuil-Soulanges territory is serviced by numerous community and collective transportation services aimed at adequately meeting the various needs of its residents. Whether for work, studies, pleasure, or due to a special situation experienced by you or a loved one, there is a wide array of transportation options for your daily or occasional requirements.
